Summer is a time of family barbecues, boating, and outdoor sports, but it also is a time for something else – accidents.
We have noticed an increase in accident claims for emergency room visits, follow-up treatments, and fractures and lacerations during summer months. On average, the number of accident-related claim payments is close to 15% higher in the summer than at any other time of year.
At a time when 75% of American workers say they live paycheck to paycheck, accident insurance can help individuals and families be prepared for the financial burden of unexpected summer injuries. The benefits vary according to the defined injury – from sport-related to catastrophic events – and typically include benefits for follow-up doctor’s visits, emergency room treatment, hospitalization and surgery benefits, and physical therapy , just to name a few.
These medical events can really drain a family’s bank account. If a family has accident insurance, however, they are given a lump sum payment that can be used as needed to help soften the financial impact of these types of incidents. These plans are also extremely affordable. One claim can often repay the annual premium.
Another nice feature of accident insurance is that it is guarantee issued, meaning there are no health questions asked at the time of enrollment. In addition, most accident plans include a wellness benefit. These options can encourage healthy choices that can lead to better outcomes and lower healthcare costs.
